Resources

There are a number of content strategy communities and resources already on the Web:

  • Definition of content strategy.  Note that the Wikipedia definition focuses on the Web. (Does this remind you of when “content management” was focused on the Web only?)
  • Content Strategy Google Group. Organization-agnostic group, with high-quality level of discussion. Most members seem to be experienced content strategists.
  • Content Strategy Group on The Content Wrangler. This group hasn’t been that active, possibly because of the limitations of the Ning platform
  • Content Strategy Group on LinkedIn. This discussion group requires a LinkedIn account. It has a higher noise-to-signal ratio due to things like vendor announcements.
  • Content Strategy Knol. Started by a group of US East Coast content strategists.  it’s meant to build up a knowledge base for this field of practice, with the perspective of content strategy being within the UX discipline.
  • Content Strategy compendium. My collection of content strategy resources on Delicious. No Delicious account required to view the list.
  • Managing Enterprise Content. A key resource for technical communicators planning and implementing a content strategy. Ann Rockley, author.
  • Content Strategy for the Web. A new book on content strategy, with a focus on Web projects. Kristina Halvorson.
  • Web Content Strategist’s Bible. A book on content strategy, with a focus on Web projects. Richard Sheffield.
  • eserver collection.  Results for a search on tc.eserver.org for content strategy articles and presentations.
  • SlideShare. Search results for content strategy presentations.
  • Information Design. A great running list of content strategy bits and bobs from a variety of sources.

I’m sure there are many other resources out there, and would be happy to expand the list. Email me at rabailie -at- intentionaldesign -dot- ca to add your own favorites.
